Grinkle Lodge is situated in the uppermost corner of the North York Moors National Park, approximately 12 miles north of the historic seafaring town of Whitby. The Moors landscape ranges from woodland and forests, heather moorland, rivers and wetlands to the rocky coastal region.

The North York Moors Steam Railway which runs from Pickering to Grosmont runs through ‘Heartbeat’ country, so called because of the popular long-running TV series much of which is filmed in Goathland (Aidensfield), Whitby and surrounding countryside including the Grinkle area.

The coastal region from Whitby northwards to the Tees valley is known as Captain Cook Country and includes many landmarks in the life of Britain’s greatest seafarer.

There are many picturesque villages to explore within easy driving distance. Staithes, Runswick Bay and Robin Hood’s Bay, each with their own distinct character, are all close by and the Moors Centre is at Danby is just 4 miles away. A little further north lies the small, slightly faded but interesting Victorian resort of Saltburn.

The famous and ancient city of York is a little further away (about 90 minutes drive) but makes a great day out.

Local Directions: From Whitby, take A171 northbound for approx. 12 miles: just after Scaling Dam reservoir take next right turn to 'Grinkle and Easington'. After 2 miles take first right turn AFTER entrance to Grinkle Park Hotel.
